Only certain types of pistols are heavy.

I have a big black pistol and it weighs less than The Wife Unit’s purse fully loaded. If I fired it at a telephone pole, the round would zip right through it.

Of course my hands would sting, but still.

It comes down to duty pistol vs. defensive pistol. If I am a cop, holding a heavy gun on a suspect for a extended length of time SUCKS. Therefore, my pistol is light and I adjust for recoil for the lighter weapon.

A all-metal frame gun, on the other hand, mitigates recoil at the expense of weight. That would be an okay firearm for a civilian who would only draw his pistol in the most dire of circumstances, moments away from pulling the trigger.

This is a complicated area which boils down to “who’s pistol is it?”

However, if your reference to the pistol is fleeting, then this is not a specific area that warrants a lot of research.

    Hope this helps,
