2015 Publishing Schedule and Works in Progress

January 27, 2015 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: Not Exactly Random, The Craft  0 Comments

Here we go:

The Lexus Toulouse Mystery Series

Who doesn’t love a science fiction murder mystery? Or libertarian science fiction? The Wælcyrie Murders goes live on Amazon as a Kindle book on January 30th. You can pre-order it now. At long last!

Between January 30th and February 4th the first book in the series, Armageddon’s Princess, the Kindle version, will be free. Although if you are a Amazon Prime member or a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, you can get the book free now.

In February, I’ll start the production of The Wælcyrie Murders audio book. I have not worked out with the audio producer when she can fit it in her schedule, but it should be sometime this year for sure.

Also in February I will release the hardcover of of The Wælcyrie Murders. I don’t make much money off hardcover sells, but they sure are nice books and I use them in promotions like mad. There will be a Goodreads giveaway in March using the hardcover.

Book 3’s schedule is determined by A) finding a new editor and B) finishing the book. Mostly B. However, the cover reveal will be on February 5th. And what a cover it is!

And finally, sometime in 2015, not exactly sure, I will release The Woman, a novella about when Lexus and Arune met.

The Lightning Giver

This is a completed New Adult contemporary novel near and dear to my heart. It’s about gender, guns, guts and God. I’ve never written anything quite like it. While the book has gone through heavy editing from critique partners, I also need a new editor for this book. Once the edits are complete, The Lightning Giver will be released in paperback, hardcover, kindle and audio format this year.

I believe you all will like this book. It’s quirky and there is nothing quite like it on the market.

The Blessing

The Blessing is Space Opera. There will be aliens, a kick-ass dad, stuff blowing up in space, spaceships, snarky protagonists, and all-around butt-kicking under a humanity-positive thematic guaranteed to be so uplifting that I’m sure some dogmatic political correct asshole will leave me a 1-star review for being a non-leftist white guy that I will print out and frame. I’ve fully outlined this novel, but I’m not going to work on it until Death by Lingerie is in editing.

Questions? Discussion?

Leave it below in the comments. That’s it for 2015.

Pre-ordering the Kindle book will help me out immensely.

And man, do I ever love this cover. I loves it so muchies! The wrap-around version for the hardcover is also spectacular.

While the go-live date on Amazon is set for January 30, the book will go live before then.

The Wælcyrie Murders Production Update

November 09, 2014 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: The Craft  0 Comments

I have submitted the final revision of The Wælcyrie Murders to the editor. It will take her about two weeks to do a line edit, give or take a week.

What’s next:

  • I have the cover art all ready to go (I’ve sat on it for a long time!). My graphics designer is cutting the Kindle cover now
  • Once I have the Kindle cover, I will put the book on for pre-order on Amazon
  • When the book comes back from line editing, I will process the edits

At this point the book is in release production:

  • I format the book for Kindle (2 hours)
  • I format the book for Print (2 hours)
  • I get back a proof from the printers (2 days)
  • The proof-reader goes over the print proof (2 days)
  • I correct the found typos (4 to 6 hours, which includes final interior layout work)
  • The Kindle and print version are published (2 hours)
  • Stay tuned for the pre-order link and then the cover reveal for book 3!

Note the Kindle version will go live before the print version (hint, hint) but I won’t officially “launch” the book until the hardcover is available from Amazon. That usually is a day or two lag, followed by another day for the titles to be linked properly.

The end is near!

The Wælcyrie Murders Last Draft: Done

October 23, 2014 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: The Craft  3 Comments

Two years in the making!

Here’s the play-by-play

  • Draft 1: The core of the story: Lexus goes undercover. As first drafts go, it was much better than the Armageddon’s Princess first draft.
  • Draft 2: I decided to change the end of the book–dramatically. Action fans will love the new ending. I also ran the manuscript through AutoCrit, which was helpful in tightening up the prose. I sent this to my editor, who produced an editorial letter for the things she wanted me to change
  • Draft 3: This is the draft based on the editorial letter, and I then sent the manuscript off for line editing. Unfortunately, I had to let my editor go and find a new one
  • Draft 4: Sending the somewhat line edited manuscript to the new (and fabulous, woooooo!) editor, she sent me an editorial letter on what she would like me to change. Draft 4, which I finally finished, is the result. The first third of the book is new, with a distinctive police procedural mystery focus, moving the story to a solid science fiction murder mystery

I apologize for those waiting so long for book two in the Lexus Toulouse series. My focus is quality.

There are a few little things in book two that is shameless fan service:

  • If you ask readers who their favorite character is, other than Lexus, most of them will respond with “Vash and Juan.” Vash and Juan it is! You want the big bad boys, well, there you go
  • Now that I know how audio books work, I made sure the book was as audio-book friendly as possible
  • Somehow I reveal more detail about the Empress yet make her more mysterious
  • I have received personal commentary and read research that eBook readers like 150K science fiction books and bigger if they are fantasy! While The Wælcyrie Murders won’t reach 150K, it will be close

What’s next:

  • I have the cover art all ready to go (I’ve sat on it for a long time!). My graphics designer is cutting the Kindle cover now
  • Once I have the Kindle cover, I will put the book on for pre-order on Amazon
  • I’ll run the book through AutoCrit again, to cut down on the little mistakes for my editor
  • The book will go back to line-editing
  • I’ll get the manuscript back and process the line-edits

At this point the book is in release production:

  • I format the book for Kindle
  • I format the book for Print
  • I get back a proof from the printers
  • The proof-reader goes over the print proof
  • I correct the found typos
  • The Kindle and print version are published

As soon as the pre-order goes live (in a few days), I’ll let everyone know!

Thank you again for your patience. This book means a lot to me, and I wanted to make sure it was worthy of your hard-earned dollars. I appreciate all of my readers immensely.

The Wælcyrie Murders Update

March 23, 2014 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: The Craft  0 Comments

Due to editorial issues, I am here to sheepishly announce a (another) small delay in the publication of book 2 of my science fiction series, The Wælcyrie Murders.

In that light, I have acquired a new editor who will reevaluate the manuscript and do an extra line edit. She is doing this now. With the awesome power of the internets and the convenience of Facebook chat, I was able to secure just the right editor for this book and series in a speedy and thorough fashion. I’ve spent time and effort (and in some cases, money) expanding my indie book network and here it paid off.

Since the manuscript was already line edited, this should be a short exercise.

I apologize to the fans who are waiting for this book. The year-long pause between releases  is not to my liking either, but I refuse to bend in any direction that results in a manuscript not up to my standards. In the future, I want to release a Lexus book every six months, in addition to my other book projects waiting for their attention (some with finished manuscripts).

There are some positives (besides making sure the novel is up to reader quality standards):

  • The audio book production will start as soon as the Kindle version appears on Amazon
  • We’re going to dump the large paperback format and offer a hardcover instead (the cost increase will be minor, too)
  • The cover-artist completed the cover art long ago and the new  graphics designer is simply waiting for the last template to finish the cover (the template is only generated when I have the exact printed page count)

Thank you every one for both your continued patience and interest in my science fiction book series. It’s a genre I love to read and publishing a science fiction book is a dream come true.

Reaching for the Stars

November 17, 2013 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: The Craft  0 Comments

In my day job, I get paid to do what I am supposed to do when I said I would do it.

I’m super good at that.

Obligatory Whining

I try very hard to be that good with my writing career, but this is an intellectual endeavor in which I am both providing the content and building the machine to produce it, and woo wee (woo wee being a technical term), it’s a bit difficult.

While we are here, that lone sentence above is really all I can drag out of myself in boo hoo land. I cringe when indie authors go on post binges on various woes, and to be blunt, cowboy up princesses and get’er done. In the interest of status for those who ask, I only went there to provide context to the below revelations.

Where We Be

All my original estimates are off because I took The Wælcyrie Murders and embarked on a slow process to improve my prose. And it worked. Where we last left off, I delivered a revised manuscript based on the (soul devoting) editorial letter my editor handed me. Based on that letter, I returned a substantial revision and Sofia is now doing the line edits. After I receive those, I’ll go through all the edits and produce the last revision that goes to the copy editor. The (new!) copy editor then checks for spelling, grammar and punctuation issues. When I accept the copy editor’s changes, then post production starts were we put together the book in quick order.

Where We Be, The Meta Discussion

It is my keen desire to put in a well-oiled machine where the above 270 word status never has to grace this blog again. That takes effort and time. I am building Team Anthony. Team Anthony is rocking right now. We’re pulling out all the stops; the quality bar for The Wælcyrie Murders is super high.

And that is good. I promise the results will please you and the positive impact will easily carry to book 3, Death by Lingerie.

Deep Mountain Studios is approaching 100% fully operational status.

Unforeseen Goodness and Resultant Publishing Date

My marketing plan was never designed to kick in until The Wælcyrie Murders was out. It’s not that I shrugged and moved on, it makes sense for me to put most of my effort when my published list has more than one book.

What I did not foresee were opportunities made available by Armageddon’s Princess publication in 2013. I can’t go into details right now, but the result is if I had the finished and produced manuscript in my hands right now, I still would not push the various  publish buttons until after January 1st. Deep Mountain Studios will publish The Wælcyrie Murders in early January 2014 or close to it. Hold on folks, I’m reaching for the stars here, and I appreciate everyone asking what the publishing schedule looks like.

Yours Always,

Reach for the Stars

The Wælcyrie Murders is Off to Editing

August 27, 2013 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: The Craft  0 Comments

For the terminally curious, here is what’s left on The Wælcyrie Murders.

  • Line edits (editor)
  • Line edit revision (me)
  • Final beta reader (beta reader who kindly does copy edits)
  • Copy edit (copy editor)
  • Print book production (layout designer and cover designer)
  • Proofreading (proofreader)
  • Print book upload to distributor
  • eBook production (layout designer, cover already finished)
  • eBook upload
  • Launch!
  • Marketing (ongoing)

Seems like a lot, but only one time consuming part remains, which is the final editing pass. The cover was done earlier.

I am constantly amazed at all the work that goes into publishing my novels and I appreciate everyone involved in the process. I call them Team Anthony and my books would go nowhere without their efforts and support.

In other news, the audiobook for Armageddon’s Princess was pushed back to the fall, due to crazy schedules. We’re shooting for quality here.

Write books. Make them awesome. Publish.

BOOYAH for Science Fiction Murder Mysteries

August 14, 2013 Author: Anthony Pacheco Category: The Craft  0 Comments

Things are a bit wild here at Chez Pacheco. End of contract madness (followed by new contract madness), lovely summer weather and (doot doot deet deeeeeeeee) editing.

Yes, I’m still editing the The Wælcyrie Murders, that post-apocalyptic red pill infused libertarian science fiction murder mystery.

The Wælcyrie Murders is the first novel where my lovely and ultra-smart editor has had her dainty and greedy little hands on it from the first revision. The prior novel, I fired the editor for non-performance halfway through the process and found Sofia, and what a find she was. Both of us are a bit of OCD when it comes to science fiction. She has exacting standards and I’ve bumped it up a notch.

That in unto itself does not explain the length of time I’m spending on revisions.

The big time suck is prose improvement, a time consuming process for an existing novel. Subsequent novels won’t have this time lag as I’m learning as I’m going.

The goal is to have The Wælcyrie Murders in everyone’s greedy hands in September-October. Right now, this is my all-consuming focus. Meanwhile, I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THE COVER GUYS THIS COVER IS AWESOME! WOOOOOOO!

The Wælcyrie Murders

You know she’s going to use that gun on bad guys.
