Bernie Taupin – Don’t Let the Sun go Down on Me

Don’t Let the Sun go Down on Me
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

I can’t light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I’m growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life

Too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Don’t let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see
I’d just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

I can’t find, oh the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way I feel
Don’t discard me just because you think I mean you harm
But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal

Music by Elton John.

This cover was sang by Oleta Adams. This video does not do anything for me, but who cares? The singing, man, the singing! When I first heard this version, and the Elton John original was no slouch by far, I believe I ovulated. And I am a guy. It is that good.

You can find the video here (embedding not enabled for this version).

I used to love this song, and tear up a bit when I heard it.

Then I heard John Wesley Hardin’s song “Warning: Parental Advisory”.

Now every time I hear it, I get the giggles, because… well… it hits my ear as “don’t let your son go down on me”.

No Tam no… just no! Oh no. RUINED. RUINED I SAY!

Well not really. I have sheet music for this song. It’s hard for a musician to get song bugs or other distractions while listening to some righteous, and I mean RIGHTEOUS song BELTED out by a goddess.

“Don’t discard me just because you think I mean you harm

But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal”

This song about lovers long gone, just gets to me. Maybe someday I will actually sing it, but I will definitely be using a ‘U’ in SUN.

That’s nothing, I’m also forever ruined for “Hold Me Closer Tony Danza” and “Somebody Shaved My Wife Tonight”.

It’s not really bad except when I’m on a date in a restaurant with soft pop on the sound system and I suddenly burst into uncontrollable hysterical giggles for no immediately discernible reason.
