Chris Isaac – Wicked Game

The world was on fire
No one could save me but you.
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I’d meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I’d lose somebody like you

No, I don’t want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
No, I don’t want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
With you
With you

What a wicked game you play
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
And I don’t wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
And I don’t want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]

World was on fire
No one could save me but you
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I’d love somebody like you
I never dreamed that I’d lose somebody like you

No I don’t wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart
No I don’t wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
With you
With you

Nobody loves no one

Warning: This video is smoldering hot, not just because the two people in it are the visual equivalent of sex, but because it is so intensely personal to the singer.

The key portion here is “What a wicked thing to say / You never felt this way”. To me, he is talking about the things some women say that aren’t true to get us to love them. Which is wicked, or, in other words, cruel. She says nothing in the video, obviously, but she speaks with her eyes. And her eyes are apathetic, blank. He wants her, and she wants something else beyond the carnal, so she does and says things to make him fall in love. His eyes, on the other hand, long for her. Is that longing beyond her sexy body and things she said and does?

Nobody loves no one, and it is a wicked game to play on that.

I love music.

What is your interpretation of the video?

Okay, having watched the video again, oh boy. Pardon me while I drink cold water.

Ahhh, what timing. It’s a song that soooo accurately expresses an element, and an all-consuming element of my life right now.

She seems distant, as though she’s already moved on, and feels that he is holding her back. But she’s saying what he wants to hear, doing what she’s done a hundred times. But she hasn’t figured out how to tell him that something is gone, because he’s blind to everything but her.

And yes, that’s a damn hot video.
